A new company that tackles health and hygiene from another angle

Biosafe Innovations are convinced that building technology solutions that can be applied to fittings, furniture and products will enable a significant reduction in the rates of infections and other diseases transmitted through contact.

The rise of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and various epidemics such as avian flu, swine flu, and MRSA, has been the cause of concern and the subject of substantial debate. Recent outbreaks have caused major disturbances in hospitals, workplaces, public areas and transport. Biosafe Innovations aims to play its part in supporting work to prevent infectious diseases and strives to identify solutions to epidemics; from reducing the spread of the common cold to eliminating black mould in air-conditioning systems.

Biosafe Innovations already has markets in healthcare, schools, manufacturing, mining and public transport. We see vast opportunities for this approach to health and hygiene in all businesses across Australia as well as strong enquiries from SE Asian Markets. Our manufacturing, research and development are stationed in Brisbane.

How have we done this?

We started with our Activ8 range of products that use Nanotechnology which was redeveloped for today’s market. This range includes non-toxic products that are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal as well as anti-viral. These products create a barrier with anti-microbial molecules, which provide a monomolecular protective layer on any surface. Once bonded it is extremely difficult to remove and it stays active for up to 30 days on a hard surface. Additionally, it’s free of harmful chemicals and is water-based.

These products are Activ8 Barrier Guard disinfectants against COVID

The Activ8 Barrier Guard range consists of:

  • Barrier Guard Commercial disinfectant (TGA approved)
  • Barrier Guard Hospital disinfectant (TGA approved)
  • Barrier Guard HVAC disinfectant specially designed for air conditioning systems and filters. (TGA approved)

The Future

While we have a range of chemicals this is not the future we have committed to. We have started R & D programs with Queensland University of Technology, University of Queensland and RMIT in Melbourne to help us develop new technologies that we have started and want to bring to market.

Some examples of where we are heading, developing a hygienic protective coating that remains permanently anti-bacterial for the life of the product. We are starting with simple things to use in grab rails, but are not restricted to this market. We see everything from handles, to grab rails in corridors, buses, through to coating large metal surfaces that could benefit from this permanent protective barrier. We are even looking at setting a plant to change the finish on manufactured metal products so they have an anti-bacterial and anti-microbial finish that is permanent.

We have already coated filter media and have proven that in a single pass we can reduce E. coli reading above 10,000 CFU (colony forming units) to less than 10 CFU. With this as a base, we see biodegradable and recycled plastics that have anti-microbial properties that have been engineered throughout the life of the plastic to be used in water and air filtration. Examples of what could be done are handles, coatings and bench surface products to create passive infection control without the use of expensive chemicals to maintain hygiene but have companion products to maintain this technology with low ongoing costs.

Substantial savings

As you can see we believe that when the key contact surfaces are made with the ability to be hygienic that operate in a passive way to kill a wide range of microorganisms, the number of diseases and infections that are transmitted through contact can be reduced by up to 50%.

This, in turn, translates to reducing costs in so many areas:

  • Reduces the rate of absence from work due to illness.
  • Reduces outbreaks such as Hepatitis, Influenza and communicable diseases such as gastro in aged care, schools etc where large groups of people are for periods of time.
  • Reduce the number of cleaning chemicals.
  • Reduced labour to maintain a hygienic environment or clean areas when outbreaks happen.
  • Passive technology with minimal ongoing maintenance costs.

We see ourselves being part of and working in conjunction with leaders in the business community or investors where we work with and assist in providing this technology with existing products.

THE NEW WAVE IN ANTI-BACTERIAL PROTECTION

Our range includes non-toxic products that are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral.
